Ident Evaluation

For our ident we chose to do a flicking book in which the pages turn over and you can see an insight of the college with a little description and image, we also had a morph guiding the audience through the book.

I think our ident showed a clear view and gave the audience an understanding on what college you would be attending aswell as giving them brief points, it was readable and fit the 30 seconds limit. I think the colours we used were bright(red, blue, purple, orange) and related to the style of the college aswell as their house style of the logo aswell as other visual aspects of the college itself, also using bright colours for the writing and making the font and words big enough to see. We made sure the speed of the ident went with the music so your able to see what was been shown and what was written. I think the morph brought a different aspect to the ident by making it more different and creative, to know there was a little person guiding you and it added more of a effect which made it more beliavable and interesting as hes flicking the pages you think its more real.

On the other hand, although our ident was successful in many ways it could be improved. Such as the music, as it was a well known classic song it may not fit in well with the ident itself in which a more upbeat and happier song could of been added to make people want to jump up and be more glued to it when they're watching. I also think at certain points of the ident it seemed unrealistic with the way the book was layed out or things getting in the way which didnt make it seem that fairytale book, this also including the transitions used, although they helped the ident seem more realistic it wasnt dramatic enough, it could of been edited clearer to make the transitions smooth and fit in and run with the ident the way it was planned eg. one of the fading in transitions was meant to be all white so it seems as everything else has disappeared and faded into a new white page but instead fades out to black. I think if we all spent more time together to it organise and plan it properly we could of have time to add more effects or to the content which could of make it more interesting.

Overall i think using techniques such as cut out animation and stop motion while including a morph is a easy way of making anything visual, its quick and if planned out properly with the right equipment it can be a success and can engage the audience to carry on watching it knowing exactly whats going on. I think stop motion would be the easiest way to show a full captured moment as it still makes it look realistic and can tell a story, but claymation and cut out animation are good ways of showing a sequence thats creative and animated, aslong as the images used are related to the content of the story and shot the right frames it would run smoothly and can make the audience interested to know they'll be watching something that makes sense, is unique and has humour or the entertainment factor. I've been able to finish all the animations and enjoy them all, making me gain knowledge in the different techniques used to create shows, clips and those done by hand to know theres other ways to be more creative in how you film things and what effect it can bring.

                                                                KARINA BLOG CV

Hey guys im Karina, 18.. for now.
My background is my mums Ukrainian and my dads Greek
Living in London and study at City of Westminister college, doing a media course.
Currently also working at the o2 as a door host as a part time job while babysitting on spare days.
As much as id like to be a lawyer i enjoy media and am also considering being a journalist or a tv presenter as a second career.
This is one example of an animation i have done.

As well as working and going college i have hobbys in which i have been interested since i was young one of them being dance. This also makes me like films that are dance related but events and shows that also concentrate on that aspect. I went to a ballet and dance school from the age of 5 till i was 9 then started a performing arts school which i done for a while and was pleased when i could be in a music video.

i love to try new things such as food and visiting new places, in my lifetime id love to travel around the world and live in California. I think from watching so much of 90210 ive dreamt of going there.

Evaluation of claymation

Evaluation of Claymation

Gumbasia is a 3minute 10 second short film which was produced by Art clokey which he created in 1953 and then released early september 1955. The technique in which clay is used to make shapes can be created into a short film using stop-motion editing to make it look real.

For our stop-motion animation we had 3 characters which were all different from each other so we found it easier to create a story, our story was based on one of the characters punching one of the other guys and superman flys in picks him up and takes him away, although this is a basic storyline its a simple short film which people would be able to understand easily and can find it interesting with the characters we have used as they were unique. Although i feel there are things that can be improved such as the length of the video as it was only 6 seconds, so it could of been longer and the story could of been better by adding more humour or more of a interesting storyline. The video may also not of run as smoothly as it should of, there were some shots where it looks like its been cut and have unnecessary things in the shot by mistake.

Morph is an animated Plasticine stop-motion character that appeared on UK Tv beginning in 1977,  it was produced for the BBC by Aardman Animations, later famous for Wallace and Gromit. It went on to be a successful programme to be featured on 11 shows some of them to have their own such as Morth (Tv Series) over the 30 years it has been running it celebrated its 30th birthday in 2007 at the Encounters Film Festival in Bristol.

The strengths for claymation is that its very effective for those who want to create a short film but also something so basic which doesn't need as much effects and editing done as other shows, it also is targeted at a target audience(kids) who would enjoy watching it and find it easy to understand what the story is about. The limitations of claymation is there is only a certain amount of clay u can use or space before it runs out, as other programs such as final cut pro u can edit as much as u want with as many effects, it can also be filmed anywhere therefore they have more of a chance making it look real.

Claymation amongst the other techniques have been very successful, although i think Eadweard Muybridge's stop-motion technique is the easiest it may not be as effective to make a whole story or programme where as the claymation would be as it can tell a story from something that makes the characters look real. I think the zoetrope is also effective but its not for everyone, as the length of it is only quite short and you have to look through the slits some people wouldn't like the idea of it but would rather watch tv and watch something themselves such as the Morph series. Cut out animation is another easy way of making a clip but can take more time to do to make it seem professional and get the right pictures, sounds for everything to fit together, same as the claymation everything has to be planned beforehand for it to make sense and for people to understand the content or the message its trying to get across. All techniques are targeted at a different target audience but also different use, some can be to see simply on a advert but some can be made into a tv show all depending how you edit and the length apart from the zoetrope which you would have to see in real life.
