Legal & Ethical

What does ‘copyright,’ mean?
Copyright refers to laws that regulate the use of the work of a creator, such as an artist or author. This includes copying, distributing, altering and displaying creative, literary and other types of work. Unless otherwise stated in a contract, the author or creator of a work retains the copyright.
Give three examples of different things which you might include in your video and could be subject to copyright:
Using an artists song or video. Copying a persons image without their permission.
List two websites that give copyright free music:
List a website where you can find free or low fee photographs:
www.freedigitalphotos.net
Explain what a location release form and why is it needed for filming?
Permission includes the right to bring personnel and equipment onto the property and to remove them after completion of the work. When you wish to photograph, videotape or record property which you do not own. With a location release in hand, a filmmaker or production company has the permission needed to film on a specific property. Furthermore, the location release gives the filmmaker or production company ownership of any images of that property that appear in the footage.
What is a contributor release form and why is it required?
A Contributor release form is commenced between a contributor and a production studio, where the contributor grants his consent to use his contribution in the produced programme by accepting the certain official terms, these are very important otherwise you wont be able to show it to anyone.

Task 6 Evaluation

Throughout these weeks ive been reviewing my video and planning action points in which would help me become more organised with the video. Every week i would comment and set targets for myself in order to help me get everything finished more quickly. I think the targets i met was being able to complete all my work and put effort into it and not get as distracted as i normally would. I used strategy's such as using ict skills, communicating with others and working independentely to get everything done more quicker, ive also had to learn new software and use programs such as final cut pro which i normally wouldnt use otherwise. This made me gain more experience in media equipment such as using a digital camera but also shooting at different camera angles, in media programs such as final cut pro where i edited my video and learnt how to add different effects and work my way round the program and finding how to add videos, music and pictures. I think i have managed to space out my time wisely in which i have completed everything and had enough time to finish my video and the written tasks and upload them to my blog so i didnt have to stress myself and worry i wont get it done in time. I think this is where my strenghts came in as i worked independently but also as a team and had to talk to others when being used to film the 5 shots and film for others, i also organised out everything before so i had a plan to show me how i should plan out my days and what i could do everyday to help me get everything done in time.
Although i had a few strong points over the 6 weeks and managing to do my work i know i could of improved alot and showed more dedication to my work as i could get distracted easily and might not be able to do as much work as i know i could of which could get me a higher grade. I also could of spent more time on my video to add a few more skills that i learnt such as transitions to make it look more professional and well planned out, i also could of added more effects and text. I know throughout the 6 weeks my main weakness was my punctuality, even though my attendance was 93% my punctuality wasnt as good and this could mean i got less work done and missed out on important things which could of helped me, i know for next time how important it is and plan to sort that out first and focus on my other weaknesses so i dont get distracted by anything and get all my work done to my full potential. I could also improve by getting more extra work done at home and taking my time to plan out things so its not rushed.

Video Profile Evaluation

My video profile was based on my dog Fila who died as i found this was a topic i could talk most about and could have the most detail for. I began to write my script and shoot the 5 shot sequence to get me started so i had a plan and knew was i was doing then i began to shoot the rest of my footage and try make it fit with the audio. When i had got all the filming done and recorded the voice overs i started editing my video. Now ive finished my video and have got 5 people to comment i know what i done good and what i can improve on, i explained the story in detail and got enough footage to cover it and also make it the time its supposed to be, i inserted a song to make empathise the point that its a sad story and give it that extra tension. I think i managed to edit the footage together quiet well and make it fit in with the audio sometimes.
I could improve by making the story more clearer ar times as it may sound like the audio is over written over eachother sometimes, i also think i should of edited the clips more with the audio so its fits well when i stop talking about something i should cut my footage to go in timing with it. Next time i think i would pick a different topic to talk about or if not make it more intresting by getting more footage of it relating to the story and take my time editing it more so everything fits well and the sound is more clearer and the background music, i would also add more effects and transitions which i didnt do a lot to make it look more professional and well planned out.
