Is DVD dead?

This is debatable some may say agree some may not, over the years dvd's are becoming less popular, this is to do with online sites, tv's and new technology being released to give the audience more ways of accessing films without having to buy them.

Online media's such as Netflix being instant and love film give you the chance to pay £5 a month to watch as many films as they want online this is one of the best ways to make customers want to do this instead as its more for their money, but not every one wants to watch a film online, some may want a dvd to keep or for their collection which they can pick up and watch, or even give to someone by being a physical product, but with some of the most used shops closing down such as blockbusters and HMV this doesn't make it any easier for them to buy it which is why a majority of the people will find a different way of watching a DVD.

For some paying around £10 for a film isn't too tempting, so less people are likely to buy a DVD unless its in their budget or  they don't have access to a computer. Hence why more people will divert to going online and watching a film for free or can even download to their PC. Although both have pro's and cons one way they are similar is the piracy, some DVDs you may get are pirate copy's or bad quality and so may the films online, such as giving you a virus, being slow or just having good quality, so could Blu ray be the next most popular viewing platform?

However DVDs are still popular with the customers, being more sure that they will provide you with better quality and certainty to work without any stopping and loading which could depend on broadband and the speed as well as the sites. They also can have bonus and special features as anywhere else you will not. Its more user and eco friendly and on the other hand, some hmv's are still open.

Video Installation Evaluation

The task was to create a video installation, by using previous methods of shooting, basing mine on painting being splattered on the wall as the effect i could edit this in many ways.

The video went well as it featured different colours which contrasted well, using bring colours to make it stand out more. The different transitions and movements used focused on different parts of the paint, such as zooming in on the part where it looked like it was dripping and the different blurred and grid techniques. The music went quite well as the paint seems to be splattered at the right times of the song, it doesn't have anyone singing so a backing track went quite well to focus more on the art. I think it was a good idea to try only get the wall and the paint in the video as it seemed more realistic and creative to know the audience is only looking at the picture and not the person or a hand that's creating it which will make it seem less interesting.

On the other hand there were still parts that didn't go as well as they should have, such as the short clip at the end which was hand prints on paper, using the emboss effect it wasn't a good way of showing the audience what it was about and it might be confusing and pointless as it doesn't really link to the main idea. Also it could of been extended and more creative, a variety of different camera and shot angles, as well as using bit more of different colours to make it more vibrant. These are the things i would change for next time.

Night Time Events Photography/Evaluation

For my photography project i decided to do Night time events, being in the festive period there was many events across London that would allow me to capture the scenery. I chose to do mine on winter wonderland as it is one of the most popular attractions in London at winter time, with thousands of people and a variety of things to do from rides to food stalls and amusements it was the place to be. I was able to capture some of the things that caught my eye and later slightly edit them to make the picture brighter and exciting. I would like these photographs to be used in London newspapers, magazines such at timeout and TNT also travel blogs. These will help highlight the events and show the audience what they could expect to see, by advertising them on not just articles but the internet it allows them to be recognised more quickly and on social sites to be shared around to world too. It gives an insight of London and gives the audience expectations by wanting to go for themselves to judge how good it is.

As i was able to take pictures of what interested me i had the opportunity to go out and find a place i thought appealed to me, which made me feel more comfortable and know what exactly i wanted to capture a moment off. The advantanges of this were i could look around and enjoy myself while still sticking to what i needed to do, im quite happy with the way some of these pictures have turnt out so am pleased with the outcome of this experience, I think they show a lot of detail and are clear to the audience what they would expect to see if they was to visit themselves. By using the effects it let me play around a bit with the keys to know what looks best and to make the picture more eye-catching.

The disadvantages of this photography was as this is an event that looks better in the night time the flash may not work as well or have a couple of difficulties to get the right light balance and as for the weather its quite cold. I think i could of improved by showing more shot angles such as close ups of food for example, this would of defined the detail and not just mid shots of the object i was trying to capture. It would of gave a wider range of pictures in which would of showed different sizes and perspectives to give the audience more of the feel of the texture and a feel of what it would be like.
