Advert Evaluation

The concept of our advert advertising the brand "MAC Cosmetics" as its a very known brand we thought a mojority of the people could relate to it, although the target audience may only be directed at women its a very unique brand which men could also use at photoshoots, videos etc. Its used by and at important and big events such as london fashion week which tells the audience that the brand is good and worth your money, as its more advertised and seen more by people it will become more recongized and will be spread more over the countrys. We thought as the brand has yet to release a advert on tv and only posters and magazine advertisements used it would be a good idea to give people a visual insight of the brand and make it more known to boost its reputation.

In the advert it starts off with a close up of my lips and then zooms out on me walking in which i am in colour and everything else is black and white, as im walking you see a girl pass me and turn around more in slow motion to emphasize the point of me wearing something that she liked, i then walk into a building and lip sync "mac" which it then changes to the studio parts of me laughing and a low shot/mid shot of my face and me saying "mac". A few extra clips are added afterwards of the group "bell amie", holly valances lips, and a few youtube make up videos we thought it would more creativity to the video so it looked more like it was about the product. Our ending was used as a idea from "ugly betty" where at the beginning of the program theres different features cut of the face and then put on top of each other to make a different face, we thought this would be a cool idea and could remake it by taking short videos of people and then cutting their features out and putting them together. The video ended on me writing "mac" on the mirror and a picture of a woman who had mac make up on with it blended in to their logo.

I think in use of equipment and planning, we tried to be as organised as we can by completing our storyboards, mind map and presentation which helped us gain better knowledge of the product to help us use in the video and plan for our main storyline. I think we worked as a team well as we all came up with different ideas and filmed different aspects of the video so no one was left out and everyone could get a chance to say their idea but also how to improve the video and what should be changed, as we were all girls it helped us pick a product better as we would have the same thoughts and wouldn't be biased about the product we picked as it would relate to all of us. We all had turns at filming with the equipment so we could improve our skills with the camera's, tripods but also at editing.

We shot it in different locations so we could show the different colours and a variety of different shots in which we can then blend together, we shot some in the studio, outside and we got a few clips from different videos to show the mac make up. I thought the video went well as we managed to add different effects/transitions to make it look more professional and realistic, i thought it blended in well as it had a purpose to it as i was the main character everything else was black and white and i was in colour, so the moral of the story was i make everything change into colour. I thought this was one of the things that went well in the video amongst picking a song that went with the video and making the brand noticeable in the video. I think the feedback we received was good as well as people gave good reviews and pointed out things that we thought was interesting and didn't realise ourselves. Its taught us new techniques we could use for next time but also whats good and what we could improve or shouldn't do again.

The differences there would be about our video and a professional video that mac itself would do would probably be they would have used more than one person for their video and had their make up for bright and colourful showing all the make up they have in store but what their known for, they would have also made it more random rather than having a storyline about one person, it would of looked more professional by using photo shoots, better effects/lightning and a background image. The similarities would be the different angle shots, clear image and lightning also how the song was relevant to the video. I think although mac doesn't have their own official advert as their known so global they think it might not be needed id like to think the product would be successful in the advert as it showed a purpose, was short but effective and pointed out a variety of things to tell more about mac showing different storylines but also the different products the brand has, i also think it might not be as successful as it wasnt as clear to tell how the product will make you feel and how good it actually is, also it needed to be cut and blended in more with the music but also the different shots of locations to make it look as one whole story to draw them in more.

The persuasive techniques we used in the video was "beautiful women" as there was make up used throughout the video which shows that women use it to make themselves look more beautiful, there was also clips of girls dressed up and a pretty girl group which will catch the the audiences eye to see the make up they used makes them look flawless. As its make up it relates to it a lot and shows what mac make up can do to you and how it makes you look so the audience can get a chance to look like that also. Another technique would be celebrity endorsement as in our storyboard we wanted "Mila Kunis" to be our main model as shes got natural beauty and would attract the audience, in our video we used "Bell Amie" as an example as they looked like they were having fun but also look glamorous and they're also recognised by the audience so it would show that they also use the brand.

The target audience would be mostly aimed at women aged from teenagers to older women, although men would use it as well in photo shoots and fashion shows. This product is mostly aimed at people who are working class and above as their prices are quite expensive but worth the money so it would be a reasonable price for people who would pay more for make up thats good and lasting rather then less expensive and not as good in quality. The advert is targeted at all different people who are interested in make up that can relate to it but also feel more convinced to buy it. Its also aimed at people who might be photographers and make up artists to show them this is one of the best brands to use as its so known and used by celebrities and all over the world.

As well as having good points about the video theres also areas we would need to improve on or change for the next time. I think the feedback gave us more points in which we can improve on and helped us to know other peoples opinions from outside of the group which we may have not been able to see ourselves. I think the things we could improve on would be the music wasn't cut as well in the middle due to lack of time so for next time we'd have to make it more organised and make it one of the main prioritys to fix. There was also abit too much going on as different clips where i wasnt seen doing anything which didnt really help the video and focus on advertising the product like we should have, there should have been less locations so it looked like there was a variety of story lines going on so we should have made it clearer and make the product more shown in the video so our story relates to the product more.

MAC Advert

Task 5

Advert 1
"Toys r us" is mostly targeted at kids and families, as toys r us is a well known toys shop more kids will be drawn into the video as they'll see something they like and their family would have to buy it for them, as well as it being close to christmas they target it all classes to know they can get something for the kids with special offers and to fit their price range. Its aimed at kids starting from those who are expecting a baby to kids up to 12. Although there are toys for teenagers as well such as bikes, pianos and gadgets. Its aimed at all genders and a D and above audience.

Advert 2
The target audience aimed for this advert is mostly men who are quite elderly as the advert focuses on a old man being half naked with also male chef in the background to show its more of a man world where they are so it will appeal to those who feel as if they can relate gender and age wise but also the section where they cut the cucumber portrays a mans private part so thats what could come to mind when a man see's this advert although it will still attract some women as Gordon Ramsey is a well known chef it shows celebrity endorcement so more people will know who he is and will watch it for him. It also shows people the prices and reviews from others as specsavers is a known company more people will feel like thats their best choice, people feel it'll be worth their money as they have a good reputation it'll be aimed at all classes and choosing a price range to fit their budget. It also shows theres more people who are white than any other colour so it makes it seem as if the advert itself has chosen a particular group in which they want to include.

Advert 3
This iphone 4S advert has more of a one particular target audience, such as business people who need a smartphone or those who are earning a reasonable amount and can afford it considering the contracts can be expensive and the phone itself to buy on its own therefore it'd mostly attract a class of C and upwards. Its targeted mostly at a older audience rather than teenagers who might also want it but will have to be working aswell. Its aimed at both genders as its a diverse smartphone and suitable for anyone to use. This advert is targeted at a diverse audience where its different races shown to show the phone is for anyone and not seen as only been used by a particular group of people.

Task 4

Advert 1
The product for this is Loverdose fragrance by Diesel. The persuasive technique of this advert is repetition as they keep repeating "i love you" to show the viewers what people would think of you if u wear the perfume. Their unique selling point is the product itself as its a new fragrance by them.

Advert 2
The product their selling in this advert is Kellogs Special K cereal, their persuasive techniques were facts when they talk about the amount of kalories in there and adjectives were used to describe the product more an sell it to us. Their unique selling point is how many kalories it has and how it will make u slimmer.

Advert 3
In this advert the product their selling is Colgate total toothpaste, this has many persuasive techniques such as the anecdote by using a woman to explain her story of how she brushed her teeth then comes back the next day to show the audience the difference which includes statistics as they may not be telling the whole truth but most things are an the statistics on who uses it and all the ways it helps ur teeth. It uses adjectives such as "healthy" and has also got facts to back it up. Their unique selling point is how it helps ur teeth and that most dentists recommend it.

Task 1 30.1.1

1. Tv advertising is a way to promote or sell a brand, product or service and it gives the consumers a reason why they should buy the product.

2. The three characteristics of a contemporary advert is a Unique Selling Point (USP), Logo to make the company name rememerable also that no adverts are longer than a minute.

My advert that i chose was the haribo advert, this program is selling one of the most known sweets "Haribos" so its directed at everyone. The advert is memorable because they add sense of humour and most remembered for the little girl who shouts at her dad and the line she uses "look into my eyes" which makes the audience like her and think shes sweet as it also shows its something for the family too. It makes the audience want to go and buy them as they show the different sweets included and has a catchy theme tune at the end for them to remember it and recognise them when they see them in the shop.

What does ‘copyright,’ mean?
Copyright refers to laws that regulate the use of the work of a creator, such as an artist or author. This includes copying, distributing, altering and displaying creative, literary and other types of work. Unless otherwise stated in a contract, the author or creator of a work retains the copyright.
Give three examples of different things which you might include in your video and could be subject to copyright:
Using an artists song or video. Copying a persons image without their permission.

List a website where you can find free or low fee photographs:

A Contributor release form is commenced between a contributor and a production studio, where the contributor grants his consent to use his contribution in the produced programme by accepting the certain official terms, these are very important otherwise you wont be able to show it to anyone.

Task 6 Evaluation

Throughout these weeks ive been reviewing my video and planning action points in which would help me become more organised with the video. Every week i would comment and set targets for myself in order to help me get everything finished more quickly. I think the targets i met was being able to complete all my work and put effort into it and not get as distracted as i normally would. I used strategy's such as using ict skills, communicating with others and working independentely to get everything done more quicker, ive also had to learn new software and use programs such as final cut pro which i normally wouldnt use otherwise. This made me gain more experience in media equipment such as using a digital camera but also shooting at different camera angles, in media programs such as final cut pro where i edited my video and learnt how to add different effects and work my way round the program and finding how to add videos, music and pictures. I think i have managed to space out my time wisely in which i have completed everything and had enough time to finish my video and the written tasks and upload them to my blog so i didnt have to stress myself and worry i wont get it done in time. I think this is where my strenghts came in as i worked independently but also as a team and had to talk to others when being used to film the 5 shots and film for others, i also organised out everything before so i had a plan to show me how i should plan out my days and what i could do everyday to help me get everything done in time.
Although i had a few strong points over the 6 weeks and managing to do my work i know i could of improved alot and showed more dedication to my work as i could get distracted easily and might not be able to do as much work as i know i could of which could get me a higher grade. I also could of spent more time on my video to add a few more skills that i learnt such as transitions to make it look more professional and well planned out, i also could of added more effects and text. I know throughout the 6 weeks my main weakness was my punctuality, even though my attendance was 93% my punctuality wasnt as good and this could mean i got less work done and missed out on important things which could of helped me, i know for next time how important it is and plan to sort that out first and focus on my other weaknesses so i dont get distracted by anything and get all my work done to my full potential. I could also improve by getting more extra work done at home and taking my time to plan out things so its not rushed.

Video Profile Evaluation

My video profile was based on my dog Fila who died as i found this was a topic i could talk most about and could have the most detail for. I began to write my script and shoot the 5 shot sequence to get me started so i had a plan and knew was i was doing then i began to shoot the rest of my footage and try make it fit with the audio. When i had got all the filming done and recorded the voice overs i started editing my video. Now ive finished my video and have got 5 people to comment i know what i done good and what i can improve on, i explained the story in detail and got enough footage to cover it and also make it the time its supposed to be, i inserted a song to make empathise the point that its a sad story and give it that extra tension. I think i managed to edit the footage together quiet well and make it fit in with the audio sometimes.
I could improve by making the story more clearer ar times as it may sound like the audio is over written over eachother sometimes, i also think i should of edited the clips more with the audio so its fits well when i stop talking about something i should cut my footage to go in timing with it. Next time i think i would pick a different topic to talk about or if not make it more intresting by getting more footage of it relating to the story and take my time editing it more so everything fits well and the sound is more clearer and the background music, i would also add more effects and transitions which i didnt do a lot to make it look more professional and well planned out.

Hi im Karina and Im 17, I study media at city of Westminister college
Camera looking at me while im talking
I don’t have many interesting life stories but I have one that probably touches me the most. My Dog Fila.
Eye level camera at me talking then a transition of a picture of my dog.
He was like my best friend, as I was only 12 he seemed like the greatest pet. We were asked to look after him as my mums friend bought it for his girlfriend then had to go away through out the time they were away we grew closer to him and realized he was part of the family.
Middle length shot so its not too close up and camera angle slightly to the side.
When they came back they realized that they don’t have time on their hands for a dog an if we wanted to we can keep him, so we did.
Camera movement - pan left to right.
Middle close up
He used to wait for us to come back by sitting on the window seal and used to sleep on the bed with us like a normal human I think that’s why we felt so close to him. I used to play hide and seek with him and take him for walks everyday.
Middle length shot while im sitting down then begin to get up and go to my window. Middle length shot again.
Then one day my mum was going work and he didn’t want her to leave. Afterwards I thought he wanted to go outside so I took him out without the lead next to my house not knowing he would run away and after my mum. I waited for him to come back an after 5mins I knew he wasn’t there I looked everywhere but by then I knew he had run away. I called my mum and she called the vets in which they tracked him down and told us he had been knocked over by a car near our main road an was brought back by the man that ran him over.
Look out my window for abit then sit on the floor and go through my photo albums while I tell the story.
Track out – Track in
4days later we went to a place to get him criminated this is when I saw him for the last time before the curtains opened and he was rolled through into the fire.
Lay down holding a picture of him
Middle shot
Worms eye
We waited couples hours before we received his ashes then we went home as it was out of London, my birthday was 3 days later.
Middle shot while I finalize my story
